Great news for online shoppers!
MasterCard SecureCode is now available.
With Secure Online Shopping, you can be confident that the purchases and payments you make on the Internet are safe and secure. Now you can have peace of mind whenever you are using a St.George MasterCard,VISA credit card or a VISA Debit card.
To take advantage of either VISA's "Verified by VISA" or "MasterCard® SecureCode™" you will need to be registered for Internet Banking. Both services are available now free of charge.
Verified by VISA and MasterCard SecureCode are cutting edge secure online shopping services that work with St.George Bank to rely on a password to validate the transaction. This acts in the same way as using a PIN or signature when you make purchases over the counter. This will ensure that it is in fact you making the purchase.
To start using Verified by VISA and MasterCard SecureCode, you will need to be registered for St.George Internet Banking. Once you have registered for Internet Banking and have set up an Internet Banking password, you will be ready to use Secure Online Shopping, once the service becomes available.

More and more online merchants will be participating in Verified by VISA and MasterCard SecureCode over time. So whenever you see the logos below at the point of payment, simply enter your password to ensure that the transaction is completely secure.

When you are registered, every time you select the "buy" button at a site that displays the Verified by VISA or MasterCard SecureCode logo, a St.George screen will appear.
On this screen, you will also see your Personal Assurance Message (PAM). This is a message you can personalise so you can shop with confidence.
After checking this screen contains the correct PAM, all you need to do is enter your correct Internet Banking password, which is also your Secure Online Shopping password, and the transaction will be validated giving you complete confidence the purchase was secure.
For more information visit visa.com.au or mastercard.com.au and keep watching this website for updates.
If you are making a purchase from a participating merchant displaying the Verified by VISA or MasterCard SecureCode logo, you will be requested to enter your password after you've clicked the 'buy' button. You simply enter your password (which will be the same as your Internet Banking password) which will then be validated, allowing you to proceed with the purchase as normal.
Currently you're not required to enter any personalised information when you purchase online. This is very different to making purchases over the counter as you will always be required to enter either your PIN or sign to validate the purchase. By entering a password online it acts in the same way as entering a PIN or signing by authenticating the purchase.
You can use your VISA Debit and/or VISA credit cards with Verified by VISA. You can use your MasterCard credit cards with MasterCard SecureCode.

Yes, once you have set up an Internet banking password you can start Internet shopping immediately.
Call 1800 028 208 immediately and let us know your details. You can make secure Internet transactions again as soon as a new card has been issued to you.
Your Personal Assurance Message is a message that will appear on a St.George screen during your secure Internet shopping transaction. It's your way of knowing, before you enter your password, that the Internet site has connected to the Bank and the transaction is secure.
The first PAM you see will read "Welcome to Secure Shopping". You should change your PAM as soon as possible to make it personal. This way you can identify it as your own. Your PAM is not another password for you to remember, it should be a recognisable name to you such as, your favourite movie, your pet's name, anything significant to you. You can change your PAM to any message that's 6-30 alphanumeric characters. Remember not to include your Internet Banking password in any form!
Simply enter Internet Banking via the St.George website and access the PAM maintenance screen. This can be accessed within the Preference drop down toolbar. Change your PAM as often as you like; it will update immediately and will appear instantly on your next Verified by VISA or MasterCard SecureCode transaction.
No! Your PAM should be treated the same way as your Internet Banking password or PIN and shouldn't be disclosed to anyone.
This may mean you are not at a secure shopping location. The best thing to do is cancel this transaction. Do not enter your Internet Banking password. Next, confirm your PAM details via the St.George Internet Banking website. If your PAM is still different from what was displayed during the transaction, please call the Internet Banking Help Desk on 1300 555 203 between 8am - 9pm (AEST), 7 days a week.
